    3. Dear Hicks List: My father inherited an old Bible (copyright 1853) and within the leaves was a letter written 22 Feb 1863 from W.R. HICKS to his wife, M.C. HICKS and on the reverse side of this letter was another letter written to his parents. W.R. HICKS was a Confederate Soldier stationed at Port Hudson, Louisiana. In the letter to his wife he tells about the price of food--eggs, $2 a dozen, sweet potatoes, $3 a bushel, etc. In the letter to his parents, he tells them that "Brother James" is dead. He also mentions Wash CATES who died and James CATES who he had not seen since Corinth and was presumed dead. I found (on the Internet) a W.R. HICKS, Pvt., Co. A, 15th Arkansas. I know that Port Hudson came under siege in May 1863 and that probably W.R. was there at that time. He says in the letter to his wife that he thinks the war will end by summer. My great-grandmother was Armitta Jane HICKS who married I.C. STIGALL. I believe W.R. HICKS was her eldest brother. My great-grandmother's obituary lists her parents as Nelson HICKS and Roseanne WISEMAN. They are found in Henry County, TN in 1850. Armitta Jane was not born until 1863. Could they have moved to Arkansas? Does anyone show this family in the 1860 census? Anywhere? I would also love to reconnect with fellow researchers Jerry Hicks and Krista Grant. They are in the 1920 Census, McIntosh Co OK where they ran a cafe. They eventually moved to Erath Co, TX, then in their older age moved to Houston TX area (Pearland) where they lived with a daughter, Martha “Mattie” Elizabeth White Morton (m. Davis V. Quinn Morton). Other daughters were Ora, Willie, and Lottie.

In the 1850 census in Morgan Ohio there is a John Hicks b abt 1810 m to Harriet Hicks b abt 1805 and they both are from VA. Thats all info I have for these 2. Their children's names are; Thompson b abt 1836, Ruth A b abt 1839, George b abt 1842, Campsadel b abt 1844, and Wesley b abt 1849. All born in Ohio. I am trying to find John's parents and possibly Harriet's maiden name from Va if possible. Have decendents from Thompson Hicks to present. Thanks Brett

Regina and List I have a Charles B Hicks born April 15, 1881 in Russell Co Va he was the son of James M Hicks and Rebecca Puckett he could be the one you are looking for as I can find no info on him. Most of my information on the early Hicks/Donaldsons is from the work my grandfather's niece compiled about 20 years ago. I really appreciate your willingness to share more with me. My mother's father was the grandson of Moses Martin Donaldson, Jr. His parents were Sumner Clark Donaldson and Susie Victoria Grigg. I am in Oklahoma but if I have the opportunity someday to visit Illinois, I will be sure and check the library for the information you mentioned. Thanks again for your help.
