Larry and List You are correct in the fact that Jesse Hicks is the son of Charles Hicks and Rebecca Gibson and Charles was the son of Aulse Hicks. With the naming patters I have a hunch that Old John Hicks and Aulse are kin, The names are the same for both lines in Ky and those that stay in Russell and Wise co in Va. I have no information other than tax and census records. But a boy of Jesse's age does not fit any of the other Hicks of Russell county. And I think you have to assume he was from Russell Va judging by the names of Jesse's children. Aulse and his other son Hiram both stated they were born in Tenn. If Jesse stated that his father was born in NC it would still match because Tenn territory became part of NC in 1776. Charles and the other Hicks of Russell county claimed Va as their birthplace. I live in IL about 20 minutes from St Louis, and we go bummin' in southern IL pretty often, but it seems like it's always on the weekend when the courthouses are closed. I posted on here back in May or June, but I haven't heard anything as of yet. My grandma divorced Dewey sometime in the late 20's, moved up here and remarried. She married a county deputy who managed to keep Dewey away. A few months prior to her death, I got her to open up somewhat and get a few names. Dewey's dad was called Lum, mother Olive, sisters Ruby, Edna, Olivia, and there was another son who died young. Somewhere I have a Hicks side to my family... I'll keep huntin'. Thanks again for the replies, Chris

Our Christopher did father another son and it could have easily been in 1898.We don't even know where he was for many years. But he did show up living with his brother on the 1910 census in Hopkins Co,KY We haven't been able to locate him on the 1900 census. Have you thought about ordering Dewey's birth certificate? According to "The Family Tree Resource Book for Genealogists",Union Co,IL has birth records as early as 1877 and can be obtained through the county clerk's office.Their phone # is (618) 833-5711. That might tell you who his father was. Good Luck, Mical

I'm trying to track a Dewey Dewitt Hicks from Williamson / Union County IL. He was my mothers "real" father, and I do know that his dad was called "Lum", which was often a knickname for someone named Columbus , or any variation of that. Traditional migration patterns in southern IL usually come through the Carolinas, Tenn, Ky, and then IL, so I thought maybe... What I do know from SSDI, is that my grandfather (Dewey) is buried in Jefferson Barracks Military Cemetary in South County (St. Louis Mo) His date of birth was July 19, 1898 in Union county IL, and he died in 1970. in St Louis Mo. I thank you for your reply, and if you do know of any of my Hicks, I'd be more than grateful for a nudge in their direction. Thanks again. Chris

Reuben was born in Virginia about 1795, And was in the 1812 War, and was living in Russell County, Virginia after the 1812 War. Reuben and his second wife, Nancy received a pension from that War. He was in the "Virginia Militia" Captain John Hammons Company. There is no regiment listed on his pension papers and shows he only served 90 days... August 2, 1814 to October 30, 1814, and on another form it said he was station at at Norfolk, Virginia, And he served a full 60 days, July 20, 1814 to December 7, 1814. (There was another Reuben Hicks in the 1812 War from Tennessee). This Reuben Hicks moved to Floyd County, Kentucky around 1835. He was on the 1840 census and 1850 Floyd County, Kentucky Census, then in 1860 on the Lawrence County, Kentucky Census. The census has him listed as a farmer. Christena was listed as living with their son William J. Hicks in the 1870 Carter County, Kentucky census. Christena died September 27, 1874 probably in Carter County, Kentucky Reuben died! on the first day of January, 1880 in Carter County, Kentucky and buried on Perry's Branch, Olive Hill, Carter County,Kentucky I found seven boys for his children, all of them born in Russell County, Virginia except Reuben R.. Hicks who was born in Floyd County, Kentucky. In his pension papers he stated he was 76 years old in 1851. This researcher has a copy of Rueben's pension papers. Reuben was living in Carter County, Kentucky when these papers were filed in 1871, and Christena was still his wife. Another researcher wrote that Reuben married Nancy Blevins, October 17, 1874 which would have been one month after Christena died. I hope this helps Dave Hicks
