Daniel Hicks was the name of the witness at the marriage of our William Hicks and Elizabeth Dunnaway 1825, in Caswell Co, NC. I have long sought someone who could tell me something about him. I have seen signs of him, and men I believe to be his sons living around him. But, have found nothing concrete about him in any form. Could you tell me a little more about him? The Littleberry Hicks you mentioned in your post--what can you tell me about him? I am intrigued. I wonder if any of these individual's might be relatives of our William Hicks??? William Hicks and Elizabeth Dunnaway had a son RANSOM HICKS--I KNOW that that is a name from Caswell Co as I have seen that name repeated in many times. Do you know who it may derive from? I am very interested in hearing from you. Mary Hicks [email protected]

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Cei.2ACEB/2907.2925.1.3.2.1 Message Board Post: Although there may not be enough data on these and allied families for a formal genetic study, the instance of deafness in various families may indicate the possibility of a common ancestor. I had not heard of deafness among Hicks families before this series of posts, but I have heard of it in a particular Jones family. "Oh, that's great - what does any Jones info possibly have to do with these Hicks folks?" Well, here is info from Robert Allen who has done much research on the Butler and allied Jones families, and below it an idea on how this information may be related to the Hicks family noted in this string. Marion Corbit Jones b. 13 May 1855, son of Jackson Jones and Elizabeth B. Butler, m. Tabitha Sophronia Thomas, dau. of Richard Thomasson and Rebecca Singleton. Marion was a farmer, carpenter, and coffin maker in Carroll County TN. Tabitha spun and wove her own cloth. Of their ten children, five were born blind: John, Arthur, Ida, Medie and Lorne. Note that Marion Jones' mother was Elizabeth Butler, a descendant of Elias Butler of Carroll Co. TN and earlier Montgomery Co. NC. Littleberry Hicks, son of Daniel Hicks and Lucy Butler, lived near Elias Butler in Montgomery Co. NC. There are several instances of intermarriage between Hicks and Butler in these lines. I suspect that the William Hicks mentioned earlier in this string may also be related to the above Daniel Hicks. It seems too early to make any conclusions concerning possible relationships here, but the instances of deafness are something to keep in mind during further research.

They were nephew and niece of his altho different ones called Caroline "Aunt Polly". This Samuel Risinger must be the one called "Squire Risinger" that had a sawmill in Ripley Creek. My grandfather worked for him (Leonard Risinger). If I am not mistaken he was Culna Hicks' (of Napoleon) grandfather. Caroline (as Noah Risinger said) 'was Laura Knauber's grandmother'. Way back at the one time there were two sets of Risingers. That I got from Noah and he said his mother told him. There was a Risinger called 'Devil Hen'. He belonged to the other set." I believe the Jacob referred to here is Jacob Risinger who moved to IN in the 1830s from Washington Co PA and Caroline and Samuel would be children of his brother Henry, perhaps "Devil Hen". I think this Henry can be found in Delaware Twp in the 1850 census listed as age 72. Anyone with information about any of these Risingers, please contact me at either [email protected] or [email protected]

I don't remember but probably got the list of chldren from census records, a cemetery book, and the family knowledge. When I compiled this info, the youngest 2 children weren't yet born. I found a grave at Union Christian Church cemetery & asked who he was. One of my great-aunts told me he was Grandpa Til's brother. E-mail me at [email protected] and I will send you an attachment of what I have and a photo of Armena Jane's tombstone. I live in Montgomery but was in Greene county Saturday for a Wilson reunion so we took some tombstone photos. If you e-mail me, please put "Armena Jane" as the subject line so I'll know it's not unsolicited. Look forward to hearing from you. You do know we can trace back to Jamestown, don't you? Charlotte

In the late 1700's or early 1800's they migrated from Goochland Virginia down thriugh Ky to North Eastern TN. One of Meshack's daughters Sarah was my 3rd GGM she was born in 1794 in Goochland County VA, I know very little about this family as my research has been sketchy based on family bibles no longer available and family history from a family member who has since passed. I believe Meshack's father was a John b. 1745 VA d. Sevier County TN m. Comfort Malone and they also had 10 kids (again I have names no dates) John's father was Shadrack b. abt 1725 in UK. m. Elizabeth Unknown. I've been meaning to research this line of Hicks' in more detail but they are a sideline my Hicks line migrating from Ireland most likely in the early 1800's.
