You might want to try churches in nearby towns. In my case, my 18th century ancestors lived in Hoechst a.d. Nidder, Hainchen and Altenstadt. I've found marriage, death and baptism records for "missing" people in each of those places. I've also found the same thing in 17th Strasbourg church records. They are in four different parishes there. Look at the records carefully, you might find a notation that the family lived in another town.
