I am looking for the origins of my families GRUNEWALD and KEMP. All I know is that they came from Hesse Darmstadt. I don't know of which area thereof. They may have been Catholics. JEAN GRUNEWALD was born in March 1818 and married CECILE KEMP . They arrived in New York City with their three young daughters on the ship "Messenger" via Antwerp on August 18, 1852. He died in NYC shortly thereafter (June 1, 1855). The family and their descendants remained in NYC. JEAN GRUNEWALD may have had siblings, all born in Hesse Darmstadt; Catherine born abt 1826, Elizabeth born 1827, Charles born abt 1828, Magdelena born 1837, Charles born 1838 and Catherine born 1841. I only know that these people, through the years, continued to live very close to my great grandparents. CECILE KEMP, Jean's wife had a twin sister, MARIE who was married to a WILLIAM DOCHNAHL (sp?) and lived in NYC, at least for a while. I have hopes that someone else may be researching any of the above persons. Evelyn Wright
