My LEYENDECKER family lived very close to the Rhein River just outside Coblenz. The easiest port for them was Antwerp since they could catch a boat out of Coblenz and travel the Rhein to Antwerp. Not only did Anton Reibold bring his family out by way of Antwerp, but GTA lists his place of origin as Hegnach. I know by U.S. census reports that this family is from Hessen-Darmstadt. My family left in 1846. I also know Anton's wife boarded with a three month year old, so I do not know whether they had to stop somewhere due to her pregnancy, but when I have looked at maps, they do appear to have taken a very strange route. I share this story because my family appeared to have done the same thing around the same period. I guess we need to find out what was going on around that time.
