    3. Hi Margaret, How were you able to figure out your Weippert ancestor was born in Wernges? I take it you found german Weippert records starting with a particular parish that contained Wernges? Were these the immigration or emigration records that you searched from the LDS? So you were not able to find your Domer (+all variations) ancestor in these records, but were you able to find your Weippert ancestor in these records? It's strange that the the Domer's were not also in that parish. Perhaps your particular Weippert ancestor moved a fair distance away from Wernges to a town where the Domer's lived? Do you know that your Domer ancestor was born in Hesse-Darmstadt? I suppose you also have their birthyear? If so, then you are in a similar situation to me, where you just don't know which town, and parish, has their records. I am contacting the LDS to see if they have any suggestions as to which microfilms I should order. I also plan to call the Hessen Darmstadt Archives in Germany to see if they have copies of old passports, or any other suggestions. I also am contacting the church in the US where my ancestor attended, to see if they happen to have details such as town of birth (their state death records and obits do not). Also, I plan to look other descendants that might happen to have info that was handed down. If all else fails, like you I might also go ahead and start ordering microfilms of Darmstadt church records--I estimate there could be up to 20 that I (or my wife who is German, but I'd have to bribe her!) would need to search through. It's frustrating that the germans haven't yet started putting an index of their church records online (or have they?). Anybody know whether there's any plan to do so? I am searching the WEIPPERT (WEIPERT) who I know were born in Wernges which is in the Lauterbach district. (Near Fulda). Now the tricky part is my line of WEIPPERT married a DOMER(DOHMER, DAHMER) who is also from Hesse-Darmstadt.... Can't find the Domer family of the right time period anywhere. I have even traveled to the village of Wernges. I have searched from the marriage of WEIPPERT/DOMER in various villages around Wernges. I have learned about the WEIPPERT family thought various times in HEssen-Darmstadt to 1665 other villages than Wernges. I have had a friend in Germany search the archives in Frankfurt only to find the name can't be found or he missed the ONE entry of DOMER,DOHMER,DAHMER. Guess what I can not even find the DOMER family by reading the immigration records from LDS.... Here are the Immigration records that I have read from LDS Film No. 2204337 immigration-Lauterbach 1820-1944. (and the years are not in any certain order) Film No. 2204577 immigration (not in any certain order of years traveled) Film No. 2204578 immigration ( various years no certain order) So now I keep serching at LDS the various town records that are located near Wernges. Any other suggestions? Margaret Maryland, USA --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Hello, Has anyone seen a list of the various Kreis's (counties) for Hessen, especially Hessen-Darmstadt, during the first half of the 19th century? I recently found out that my Lutz ancestors came from Niederbessingen (in 1856) which was clearly in Hessen-Darmstadt, just north of Frankfurt, but their church records also say they were from Kreis Humme and I cannot for the life of me find any mention of that county anywhere. So my other question is, has anyone ever heard of Kreis Humme? Is this a mistranslation of the church records? Thanks in advance, Brian Hamman --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
