In '98, we did it differently. We rented a car from Kemwell in upstate New York, flew to Frankfurt, picked up the car hassle-free, drove to all of our intended places, returned the car at Frankfurt and flew home. It was Sep-Oct and we had no lodging or restaurant plans. We always found nice lodging and the food was great. The weather was awful. Having previously seen the cities, we visited ancestral towns and cousins, but never stayed with any of them. It was not a research trip. Hi, Bob. <<The weather was awful>> Depends on where you come from :) It's awful again right now, and will most likely stay like this for the rest of the year. But we have had the greatest summer of all times to make up for it :) Heinz
