I am currently in Germany on a research trip. My interests are in the village of Storndorf in the Kehl, Roth, Rockel families and I have found information at the archives in Alsfeld and at the church in OberBreidenbach and will continue research in Wallenrod and Maar while I am here. The Roths were from Wallenrod and the Rockel family from Maar. Are others interested in these families or areas? Betty Richardson
Hello Betty, How very kind of you to offer to look around for others! I am very interested in any ZULAUF family you come across in the areas you mention. I am specifically searching for the birthplace of my immigrant ancestor, Johannes Zulauf, born in 1753 according to computation from his gravestone. According to a note preserved from his youngest daughter, Johannes' father was Walter Zulauf, who was killed during the Seven Years War. Unfortunately, Zulauf is a fairly common name in that region of Germany. About ten years ago I thought I had my immigrant ancestor's family identified in Ober-breidenbach. I visited the Evangelical parish there and got information from the pastor about a Johannes Zulauf born in 1755. I used it for several years as hypothetical data until better information forced me to conclude that identification was not valid. The archives in Alsfeld were closed when I was in the area so I got nothing there. Am still looking and hoping for a lead to follow. Will be interested in hearing about any success you have in your own research there. Rev. Nelson R. Betty, I am interested in your research as I have been seeking relatives in the Alsfeld/Romrod/Strebendorf/Ober Breidenbach area, an area very close and overlapping with the area you are researching. I visited Romrod in September and found marriage, baptisms and burial records of family members, dating 1822 to 1831. The surnames of interest to me are: EDLER HOELSCHER VöLSING (widow of Peter WENZEL. She married Carl Edler in 1822) HUMMEL I was unable to find a marriage (Frederich EDLER to Marie HOELSCHER) which took place in June 1845, so this may have been in Oberbreidenbach, Strebendorf, or other. Due to deaths of adults with young children in my records, I am also interested to learn if there were registers kept when the situation arose, and records of orphanages, and/or whether other family members cared for them. Also, for general background information, Herr Gerhard Bing, at the Romrod local government offices has published a book on the history of the area, "Heimatbuch Romrod", which gives a fascinating local history, and lists some family names including a Heinrich and Maria Roth. I would be very interested in learning of your findings. -- John Edler (Sydney Australia) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty Richardson" <bkrich@sbcglobal.net> To: <HESSE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 20, 2004 06:51 Subject: [HESSE] Kehl, Roth, Rockel in Storndorf, Wallenrod, and Maar I am currently in Germany on a research trip.
