    1. BURG ancestors
    2. Hi. I am new to the list and don't exactly know where to start. I am seeking to find the ancestors of my Conrad BURG (b. April 29, 1837) and his brother, Gotthard H. BURG (b. 1848). I have no information yet on Conrad's immigration to the U.S., but Gotthard came over aboard the ship, Weser, port of embarkation Bremen, in 1867. It says on a U.S. census record that Gotthard was from "Hesse-Darmstadt." Can anyone tell me what that means? Does that mean the city of Darmstadt? Does anyone have any info on any BURG families in this time period in the Hesse Darmstadt area? Also, it seems to me that Bremen is quite far from Hesse-Darmstadt. How likely is it someone would make that journey? Couldn't they have boarded a ship somewhere closer? Also, are there any emigration indexes (auswanderung) or lists for the Hesse-Darmstadt area? Thanks for shedding some light on this subject for me. Rebecca Weigold Newport, KY
