Hello, I have recently connected my husband to Rev. Johann Casper Stoever Jr., a very predominate German Lutheran minister in Pennsylvania in the 1700's. He was born Dec. 21, 1707, Ludorf, Solingen Amt., Germany, and came to the United States in 1728 with his father, Johann Casper Stoever Sr., born Jan. 13, 1684, Frankenburg, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. Family tradition implies that these men are direct descendants of Martin Luther. There are 2 maternal lines that claim this. 1. Johann Stoever, born early 1600 and married Miss Casper in Germany. Miss Casper claimed to be a direct descendant of Martin Luther. 2. Deitrich Stoever, born c.1660, married Magdalena Eberwein, born Feb. 21, 1657, Frankenburg, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. They wed c.1682 Frankenburg, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. Magdalena also claims to be a direct descendant of Martin Luther. Her parents are Andreas Eberwein and Christiana Riese. 3. Johann Casper Stoever Sr. 4. Johann Casper Stoever Jr. Is anyone familiar with these families? Does anyone know if there is any validity to their claims of being direct descendants to Martin Luther? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Pamela J. Adams __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! As Martin Luther and his wife had at least three sons and two daughters he did leave descendants. By doing a Goggle or Rootsweb search on his name you will most likely find genealogies that contain those descendants. Though it is possible that by "descendant" what is meant is that he was a follower of Luther. BTW the Prussian Province of Hesse-Nassau did not come into existence until 1866. To be absolutely correct you need to search back through historical maps to find in what state Frankenburg was in 1688!
