Inquiry about JULIUS GAERTNER listed with FRANENHAUSEN on ship list in 1890. I found a ship passenger list that might include my husband's great grandfather on one of his several trips between NYC and Germany. He mostly came through Antwerp and now I see Rotterdam. He continued a family business - lace, buttons, and trim in NYC and had a silk mill. Although he was born in Elberfeld (now Wuppertal) there is no record of the family there other than his birth and his sister's birth and one entry in an addressbook. We believe the family was from another area of Germany and are following up on the lead from this passenger list. By 1890 our Julius Gaertner had married in NYC and had a son. But, he did travel back and forth to Germany according to family oral history. Recent posting on the Internet confirm this along with items we have from additional voyages. I am hoping this listing of Frankenhausen might lead to his parents. Does anyone have suggestions on how to investigate more? I do not know where Franenhausen is specifically. I have been told there could be two in Hessen. Thank you. Marianne
