Hello! I'm new to the list. My Hesse-Darmstadt connection is one George Karl Spiesz, born November 13th, 1820 (according to his own writing) in Höhen-sulzen. I do not know his parents names. I know he had the following siblings though: Phillip, Ana Maria, Barbara. I have the death date for Phillip I can dig up if anyone thinks this information looks familiar. George Karl and Barbara boarded the "Virginia" in Le Havre for America. Barbara died at sea and was buried at sea. George arrived in New York City on June 11th, 1846 and then travelled to Cincinnati, Ohio which is where he settled. George left a little bit of informaton, and for that I'm thankful. He didn't include Ana Maria's married name though and we know from his writing that she lived very near to Wörms, in a town that starts with Pfiff. He also tells his mothers death date, but neglects to mention her name. She died at Ana Maria's. A father is never mentioned, so one could assume that he had died before George left for the states in 1846. He also does not tell the relative ages of his siblings - he never says he is younger than, or older than. The one last clue I do have is that they were a Protestant family. When I'm done looking through the microfilm on another ancestor, I will attempt to order the microfilm for Hohen-sulzen. But, if anybody else out there has Spiesz ancestors from Hesse-Darmstadt, please let me know. Thanks! LeeAnn McNabb
