Could it by chance have been Gelnhausen?? That is relatively close to Fulda, falls within Hessen. Odd the reference to Fulda unless the ancestor was referring to the Frankfurt and Fulda Road and that would make a lot of sense. Or it is Geilshausen as noted below.
