    1. [HESSE] Latin translation in Death Records
    2. In some mid 1800's German death records, I found this phrase which had been penned in, some years after the death event; I believe it is in Latin: " Vidi in visitatione decanali die 27 Jul 1865" It was signed by a church official, with the latin "decanus" for "deacon" under his name. I found several other similar entries with different dates and years. Does anybody know what this means and why it would be added to old death records ? Thanks Dave F
