Thank you for replying. The marriage certificate was issued in England, Lancashire so doesn't give any information about German origin. All it gives is his fathers name. The only information I have that points to Germany is the 1881 Britsih Census record that simply states his birthplace as Nassau, Germany. Found this at familysearch.org.
