I have no experience with the British Census, but in my experience with the US Census when it lists a place it's the area (state, dutchy, etc.) as opposed to a specific town. Best guess is that he was from the Dutchy of Nassau, which along with Hessen-Kassel became Hessen-Nassau (a Prussian province) in 1867 after being on the losing side of the 1866 Austro-Prussian War. As for what town he's from, that will be the key thing to know so you can find more information. Perhaps there is some kind of records for people who immigrated to England? or you can find a ships passenger list with more information? Regards, Brian Z. Eberling < Thank you for replying.
