I am looking for information on my ancestor, Peter Gärtner b: 1720/1721 d:before 1798 probably in Volmer, Russia. He married: Maria Elisabeth Stang b:1740 or 1745. Her 2nd husband was Johannes Ulrich b: 1728. Peter Gärtner was a Catholic farmer from Kurpfalz, Worms Town. From what I can gather,Kurpfalz describes a general area not a specific town or city, or is it a state? Worms Town, I am guessing is the famous City Worms. Where should I look to figure out which church my ancestor may have been a member of? Could someone help me with understanding of how to define the geographic information in regards to the 1600-1700's time period: Country: Germany State/Province:Baden ? County:Kurpfalz ? City:Worms Region:Baden also known as :Baden-Wüttemberg ? Kurpfalz, also known as :Palatinate ? I am taking a leap in assuming that: Maria Elisabeth Stang b: 1740 or 1745 was a child or niece of Bernhard Stang b:1716 in Wallernhausen, Büdingen, Hessen (state), Germany. I have also seen a location of Nidda used to describe where a Stang ancestor was from. Can someone explain to me where this is. I am interested in knowing where I should look for Catholic Church records this area. First of all is the following correct for the 1600-1700's: Country: Germany State/Province: Hessen County: Büdingen City: Wallernhausen Where can I find good maps that may help me put these two family locations into perspective? I am assuming they are fairly close together as many Gartners and Stangs married each other during this time frame according to family trees. Thank you very much, Angela Gartner Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.
