Good morning! I am looking for the Hesse-Darmstadt origin of my 2-great grandparents. There are a number of unknowns yet about this family. Year of emmigration is unknown and whether he married before or after emmigration is also unknown. There are a few people who lived in his area who might have been related or not. This is very frustrating and confusing and I know that with such little information that is known, there is not much chance in finding him or his ancestors. Any suggestions of where I might look further I would be grateful to have. John N. Koehler/Johannes N. Kohler (probably) was born 26 June, 1822 in Hesse Darmstadt he married (year and place unknown--before 1852) Verena B. Hopp born in Switzerland of German parents 9 December 1827 Probably he or they emmigrated between 1840 and 1852 and went to Detroit and then bought farmland in Sanilac County, Michigan. They were protestant. The first born child (that I know of) was John G. Koehler born 19 Aug 1853 in Detroit. I have more details on the US born children if anyone is interested but just to give an idea of the family names-they were in order of birth: John G. William A. Emma Friedrich Elizabeth Otto Clairibel In addition, there were 3 Koehlers old enough to be John N. Koehler's parents: Augusta Henry/Heinrich(?) Anna Names of the women are probably their married name--not birth names In addition, there are 3 Koehlers old enough to be brother and sister or maybe cousins of John N. Ko(e)hler Andrew W. born 1825 Barbara (who apparently remained single). There was also a Lewis/Louis Koehler--little is known about him. Any ideas where I might search further?
