When Jacob Ehresmann came to the USA he gave his citizenship as "Kingdom of Hesse". The place of birth for his daughter Katherine Ehresmann recorded in the Gingrich family Bible after she married John Gingrich II is "Neuhausen bie Worms" (if we are reading it correctly). This appears to be an administrative district rather than a town. Is this correct? Was this area under the control of the Dukes of Hess in 1834? Or was Jacob's citizenship different from that of his daughter's birthplace? We had thought Katharine was born in Mannheim, although the exact source of this information is unclear. Is this simply incorrect? Or is there some administrative explanation? Maybe when asked in later life, she just gave the name of the nearest large city that she remembered?
