It is a matter of language. In English it is Hesse. Auf Deutsch es sind Hessen. Then there is Kassel/Cassel. The usage of the C instead of the K is more the Latin usage than the English usage, though in the 19th century the C was commonly used in English. Both forms of each word are correct. Some of us are bi-lingual and use the different spellings and names interchangeably. i.e. Electorate of Hesse/Kurhessen; Grandduchy of Hesse-Darmstadt/Grossherzogtum Hessen Your meaning will come across, whichever spelling is used.
