When I look for my ancestor, Christian VOELPEL (VÖLPEL) in the IGI for Germany, I get several hits naming a place in Hesse called Mehrnberg. Unfortunately, they are all member-submitted entries. When I Google this name, it suggests that I really want Mehrenberg. Neither place is in my Oxford World Atlas, but one of the Google hits mentions Giessen, which I can find. Is Mehrenberg/Mehrnberg a small place near Giessen? In VOELPEL's naturalization paper, he renounced the Duke of Nassau. I have no other information on his origins. Would it be worth my while to look in church books for Mehrenberg, or is this too slim a clue? Thanks, Bart
