My grandmother immigrated as a "mail-order bride". Her husband had died and friends from the area who had immigrated earlier, wrote there was a widower in their neighborhood who was willing to pay for her and her daughter to immigrate to the US if she would marry him when they arrived. She agreed. They did indeed marry, but he was not as he represented himself. In fact, my grandmother was his fourth wife. The first one died and the other two divorced him. They must have had good reason to divorce him, since my grandmother did so also. She moved to another town and never remarried. Karlyn
