My Neufeld (Neufeldt, Newfield) family were members of the Congregational Church here in the USA. Was there a Congregational Church in Hessen-Darmstadt during the period of 1790 - 1870? If so, how is it related to the German Reformed Church, the Lutheran Church, and/or the Evangelical Church. The earliest Neufeld that I am currently aware of is Conrad Neufeld, immigrated from Hessen-Darmstadt and born in 1798. He immigrated to Iowa, USA, circa 1849 to New York or a New England port, with his son, Conrad II, born circa February 1828. My best information is that Conrad II was married in a Congregational Church in Niantic, New London, Connecticut, USA on February 23, 1851. Can anyone please help me find any information on what ship and when they emmigrated from Germany and any other possible records on them in Hesse-Darmstadt? By the way. How and when are "Hesse" and "Hessen" used?
