Hi Doris In 1834, there was an argument regarding land between the German community around New Hamburg and the government. It concerned 50 acres each land owner was to have received on their frontage. They threatened to move to Ohio if it wasn't settled. It was settled after a time but many did move to Ohio in 1834/35 So, although it looks like they came from Canada, many actually originated in PA (mostly Lancaster Co.)
