Thanks Thierry for the step by step instructions....which were very helpful... Unfortunately I could not find my ancestor... ..My ancestor Fredriech Wilhelm Habermann departed Germany aboard the Cesar Godeffroy in November 1855 to travel to Australia... Many years ago on this list, I was advised by a Mr. Friedrich Leumkheuler (with whom I have lost contact) that one of his contacts advised him the Immigration papers for Freidrich Wilhelm Habermann were in the Archives at MARBURG Is there a similar path to find the State Archives at MARBURG please. Hello Gay, Follow same steps that Thierry gave you previously, except for step 3. click on "HStAM: <http://www.hadis.hessen.de/scripts/HADIS.DLL/home?SID=C50B-19AB783-C29B3&PID=4DCE>Hessisches Staatsarchiv Marburg " not "HStAD :: Hessisches Staatsarchiv Darmstadt" Good luck Elizabeth At 04:37 PM 3/03/2009, you wrote: >Thanks Thierry for the step by step instructions....which were very >helpful... >Unfortunately I could not find my ancestor... >..My ancestor Fredriech Wilhelm Habermann departed Germany aboard the >Cesar Godeffroy in November 1855 to travel to Australia... >Many years ago on this list, I was advised by a Mr. Friedrich Leumkheuler >(with whom I have lost contact) that one of his contacts advised him the >Immigration papers for Freidrich Wilhelm Habermann were in the Archives at >MARBURG > >Is there a similar path to find the State Archives at MARBURG please. >Cheers >Gay > > > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >[email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Re the Caesar Godeffroy - have you looked at "from the Land of Milk and Honey" and also Ances-tree the journal of the Burwood?-Drummoyne FHSociety? The first is a book about German emigration to Australia and the second has a series of articles by Jenny Patterson, who is a specialist researcher living in Australia. She's done a huge amount of work on emigration to the eastern states of Australia from Germany. She has written articles on many of the passengers and ships which came to Australia.
