Also if is New Hamburg or Neu Hamburg, this might have been Immigrants from Hamburg orig. **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make dinner for $10 or less. 3. You're on the right vein now. Kitchener was called Berlin until WWI. There were many Swiss around the area but mainly the people were from Germany. New Hamburg is about 12 miles from there and the original settlers were mainly Germans from Pennsylvania, the original Pennsylvania Dutch of the region. Since they were mennonite, many of those originals trace their roots to Switzerland. They also went back to Germany and Switzerland to bring in more settlers in the 1830's.
