Doris, I have traced 14+ Stephan Families into the US - it appears they all came in through New York, settled in Penns, Ohio, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky just to Name a Few. All Descended from one Johan Philip Stephan b1681 in Lamperthiem. I have traced my Stephan Family back to a Claus Stephan (nicolaus) b1566 in Diersheim , Offenberg, Baden-Wuerttenberg lived near Heppenheim (apparently near the Starkenburg Castle). He had 9 Children - 3 sons which I've been able to trace, One of which is my ancestor - Nicholas Michael Stephan b1598 - he moved to Lampertheim - had 6 son's. My line being Hans B Stephan b1624 in Heppenheim. No Doubt I have In-numerable Stephan Relatives from just those 9 male Stephan's, not to mention the Daughters. I have not tried to trace The sibling families of Johan Philip Stephan b1681 though he had 6 brothers & 6 sisters. At this generation there are a minimum of 30 Stephan Families by the Year 1700 as Claus of 1566 had 2 sisters that I know of. Boggles the Mind.
