Both, the family name of Queen Elisabeth (Windsor) and the family name of her husband Prince Philip (Mountbatten) have their origin in German dynasties. And both were changed the same year, 1917, during WW I, to english names. The original names were "Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha" for Windsor and "Battenberg" for Mountbatten.
