    3. Unfortunately I haven't yet done any research in the military domain, I am sorry. So I can't help there. But I know there are some quite competent experts in this area on the german Hessen-List. You may like to try there. Also I remember in the Link list provided here yesterday there was a link dealing with military stuff as well. Go back to that link list and check if this helps. Good luck, Thierry   Dr. Thierry P. Reg. approx. 1845 era.  He was garrisoned at Mainz. He moved to  Kreuznach after his discharge.  If you or anyone else ( Dr. Dietrich?  ) know how to find this info, I'd be very happy to learn where to go or what to  do. Incidentally, his name was Franz Diederich (Dietrich).  His wife was  Eva Meid, and his sons were August, and Johann ( my grandfather ) born in  1847. Ruth In a message dated 3/4/2009 2:21:59 P.M. I have a scan of his son's baptism, listing Capit. Genevs  Compagnie as the outfit he is with. I'm assuming, Capit. Genev was his  commanding officer. Problem two is his grandfather, Johan George  Engelbach, who I think was baptized in Dec 1731 in Assenheim, but the page  bleeds to black in the bottom corner and his entry is the last on the page.  I have scans of both of them posted on my personal page. Johan George's  scan is quite large (8MB). I've never successfully transcribed this record,  but what I have discerned, makes me believe I have the right record. I was  hoping that someone would care to make an attempt to try to at least  transcribe that record. That record of course leads to the third problem.  There are no Engelbach records, that I in my limited ability can find,  before this date in Assenheim, and I don't know where to look next to try  to find out where they came from. Other than the local city  hall.
