Looking for any furher information from Germany. I have pretty much documented the family of John in New York. The information that I have: John Frederick Engel (Americanized of course) born 1841 in Asmushausen, Hessen-Kassel Parents: Iustus Engel & Dor. Maria Kreiser Occupation: Tailor I was told that he emmigrated on the ship "Elbe" in 1864. I have looked for that record. The Elbe came to NY twice that year. The first time was in January and the manifest is totally unreadable, just light scratches on the paper. The second time, if I remember correctly, was June. He was definitely not on that manifest. On his daughter's baptismal certificate, one of her godmothers was a Miss Catharina Engel. I think possibly it may be John's sister. If anyone has any additional information it would be most welcome.
