My Great-great Grandfather, Jacob Born, listed Hesse-Darmstadt on his Naturalization papers. Is Frankfurt the center of Hesse Darmstadt?? None of these formerly were a town of that name or would typically be mentioned as birth place. It is as if in US somebody would refer to be born in a city called "Down Town". Frankfurt was a indapendant city state or free city, it was not a part of Hesse-Darmstadt. The main city of Hesse-Darmstadt is the city of Darmstadt.
