    3. It does appear that yes, you do have to search it manually. I see no evidence of an index. This link explains what is there and says you have to be able to read Gothic German and know approximately what you are looking for and where/when it happened in order to have much success https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Germany,_Hessen,_Darmstadt_City_Records_%28FamilySearch_Historical_Records%29 I may be wrong, but it seems like for the average person it probably is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
