    1. Re: [HESSE] Hessian Dialect
    2. Hi When I needed information on my grandfather's family, I wrote directly to the church and got generations of family information. I don't think it was too expensive either. I doesn't hurt to try. NC In a message dated 1/22/2011 4:52:51 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, user917826@aol.com writes: Hi.. In the 1880 census, my gggrandmother, Maria Heck stated that her family came from Frankfurt Au Main. Actually her father was from Gros-Karben. The problem I face is that I am forced to find researchers as the early records of the church (bef. 1800) are not filmed by the LDS. While I have gained some knowledge of the Heck paternal line, I have not gotten much on maternal families. I have used two researchers over the past several years. I got a small report from both with the promise of more, then nothing. I still would like to find information on the maternal families of Bronst and Bauer and whatever else might be related to our Heck family. Again, I am probably going to have to coax a researcher as I have not dealt with the church directly. Any ideas how I might get this info on my own would be greatly appreciated. Needless to say, my German is TERRIBLE! Sometimes it just gets so discouraging - continuing to bang my head up against so many brick walls. One question that keeps bugging me is why these people that emigrated never talked very much about the towns or villages from whence they came. Also, another question - that someone out there will know. There is another German name that I want to find out where they were from. My mother was a GIFFELS, which apparently came from only a very small part of Germany. I believe that there is a way to find out what areas the name pops up in. Does anyone have that link handy? Thanks again for the encouragement..........
