Much like most of the rest of the remnants of the Holy Roman Empire. If they came from Palatine, they might not wanted to broadcast that and chosen to say they came from neighboring Hesse-Darmstadt. But, my history could be way off too. I struggle just understanding my little piece of of Hessian history in the Wetterau.
