    3. Hello Kathy, 36318 Vadenrod is a village in Schwalmtal Vogelsbergkreis in Northern Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. In 2001, Vadenrod celebrated their 750 year anniversary, and Heinrich Wahl wrote a book about the history of Vadenrod (current population about c. 350 people). If you are interested in the names of families who lived there write to the author at: Heinrich Wahl In den Erlen 2 36318 Schwalmtal Vadenrod Germany See details and map: <http://www.cylex-telefonbuch.de/profil/wahl-heinrich-1964368.html> clicking "zoom out" on the map will give you the approx. position of Vadenrod within Hesse-Darmstadt, between Lauterbach & Homberg. The LDS have filmed the Evangelische Kirche Vadenrod (Kr. Alsfeld) Kirchenbuchduplikat,1831-1875 film no.869950. You can order this film at your nearest Mormon Library. Photo of the Vadenrod church and gravestones at <http://www.alsfeld-evangelisch.de/dekanat/Hauptordner/gemeinden/Hopfgarten/kgm/> You did not indicate which cemetery the gravestone for Heinrich Weller is located, is it in America, Germany or elesewhere? 3. Hello Hesse Seekers, This is my annual (plea) email to solicit help finding more info about my Günther ancestors from Cassel/Kassel. According to data received from Evangelische Kircke von Kurhessen-Waldeck Landeskirchliches Archiv in Kassel, my ggggrandfather, Friedrich Günther, schlosser (locksmith, mechanic), married Catharine Liese on 1 July 1819 per Kirchenbuch Freihalter Gemeinde, Kassel. Their son, Johann Friedrich (my gggrandfather) was born 25 July 1828, baptised 31 July 1828.Birth records for any of his siblings was furnished. The data received also listed 3 other marriages: Ludwig Günther, backermeister (master baker) married Martha Strübing on 12 Dec 1819 (Kirchenbuch Altstädter Gemeinde, Kassel). They had a son, Heinrich August, on 8 August 1828. Friedrich Günther, handelsmann (merchant) married Marie Sonder on 12 Dec 1819 (Kirchenbuch Unterneustadt, Kassel. Heinrich Günther, feldweibel (sargeant) married Johanette Elisabeth Nolte on 26 Oct 1820 (Kirchenbuch Luthergemeinde, Kassel. Other birth records are: Wilhelm August Eduard Günther, son of Ernst Friedrich Günther, schneider (tailor) on 21 March 1828 (Kirchenbuch Luthergemeinde Kassel). Johann Heinrich Herman, son of Freidrich Günther, musikar (muscian) on 29 Aug 1828 ( Kirchenbuch Unterneustadt, Kassel). I suspect/hope that some of these fathers and/or their sons are related. Any other info about my Günther Family from Kassel will be greatly appreciated ! Ray Gunther, family historian

    3. Hi Kathy, If you want to do a Google search and have a first name you can do it as follows: "Maria Born" -"born in" -"was OR were born" -"born at" -"anyone born" -"new born" ~genealog* Yes, you will have to wade through many that are not relevant but should turn up others that could be. The name Maria was used as an example. 2. Alzey is in the Palatinate. It was also part of Rheinhessen for a time. I've seen reference to it being part of Hesse at some point, but I'm not sure that information is correct. It was originally part of Lotharingen. I'm sorry, but my German Empire history and geography aren't up to snuff. I do know the Palatinate has a long, tragic and tangled history. Much like most of the rest of the remnants of the Holy Roman Empire. If they came from Palatine, they might not wanted to broadcast that and chosen to say they came from neighboring Hesse-Darmstadt. But, my history could be way off too. I struggle just understanding my little piece of of Hessian history in the Wetterau. 3. Zwingli is associated with the Reformation in Switzerland more than in Germany. At any rate, "Reformed" refers to churches in the Calvinist tradition. The German Reformed Church in the US eventually merged, through several stages, with the German Evangelical Synod into the Evangelical and Reformed Church. That, in turn, merged with the Congregationalist Church and is today the United Church of Christ. Many of the UCC's present congregations have a German background. American Presbyterians are theologically similar, but have their ethnic roots in Scotland and among the Scots-Irish. 3. The Reformed Churches were started by Zwingli, in opposition to Luther (although I am not too sure what they disagreed about - although they govern themselves differently from the Lutherans) and were national churches. The Reformed Church in Scotland was called Presbyterian. When the Hungarian Reformed Church came to America, they were amalgamated into the German Reformed Church, although they got given a Synod of their own - the Magyar Synod.
