    1. Locating Lutheran Church in Butzbach
    2. I have found and read the Butzbach Hessen LDS films that contain the B-M-D and confirmation records for my KUHL ancestors from the 17 and 1800s. Now I want to write to the evangelisch church (Lutheran Church) for additional information and visit the church on an upcoming trip to Germany. Perhaps in 1800 there was only one church that served the town and nearby area. However, I would imagine that in a town the size of Butzbach there are now many churches. How do I find out which church the LDS filmed and what their current address is? The FHL notes give the following: Evangelische Kirche Butzbach (Kr. Friedberg) The film itself said: Kirchenb"ucher der EKHN. Carolyn

Jan. 27, 1773 same parents and sponsors - must be twins? mother's maiden name may have been Deger? 2) "Immigration into PA, vol 1": which listed a Philip on ship Mortonhouse and listed the "from" place as - from Rotterdam but last from Deal. arrival date: Aug. 24,1728 If you find out where Deal is that might help get closer. 3) "Immigration in PA 1727-1776 - Names of Germans, Swiss, & other immigrants" had a Philip listed and ended the list of names with the following statement: "#7. Sept. 4, 1728. Thirty Palatines with their families, about 100 persons, imported in the ship Albany, Lazarus." Hope some of this helps. Dorene > > > __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 2. Gerre Byrd
    3. Time is passing very fast me now, and after many years of ENGARD research I so want to find the "village of origin" for Philip ENGERT/ENGARD/etc. who immigrated thru Philadelphia in 1728, arriving on the Ship Mortonhouse. Philip married Catharine Elizabeth ______, settled in Montgomery Co., PA and raised at least ten children to adulthood: Adam went to NJ; m: #1 (LEEDS) #2 ROGERS, Henry m: ATKINS, Jacob m: Dorothy ______, John m: Anna Maria ______, Peter m: Isabella _______, Philip m: Katie MOSSER/MOSLER and/or Elizabeth _______, & William m: Elizabeth _______, Elizabeth m: John BECKER, Anna Margaret m: Jacob KULP/CUPP, & Mary m: Conrad EMICH. We have so many clues & connections leading us back to Rossdorf near Darmstadt. So far, the bible records we've had access to have not revealed our Philip. The following family is closely connected in America: REGARD TO RODEMICH IN UPPER DUBLIN TOWNSHIP PA. ADAM RODEMICH WAS MARRIED TO ELISABETHA MARGARETHA ENGERT BORN IN ROSSDORF HESSEN 4 AUG 1800. HER PARENTS ARE JOHANN NICOLAUS ENGERT AND EVA MARGARETHA VORNOFF. JOHANN NICOLAUS ENGERT WAS BORN 30 MAY 1772 IN ROSSDORF HESSEN. HIS PARENTS ARE JOHANN CHRISTOPH ENGERT AND ANNA BARBARA EMICH. JOHANN CHRISTOPHER ENGERT WAS BORN 11 JUN 1744. HIS PARENTS WAS JOHANN MARTIN ENGERT AND ANNA CATHARINA. JOHANN MARTIN WAS BORN 20 MAY 1704 IN ROSSDORF HESSEN. ADAM AND ELISABETHA FOLLOWED A CONRAD EMICH TO PENNSYLVANIA TO BE A PART OF THE CHURCH AT OLD PUFFS. Please, if anyone on the Hesse list has any ideas for me. I can send some old bible records that have been transcribed and placed in my "notes" for ENGERTS in Rossdorf. Just request. Gerre Engard Byrd

    3. Hello! I'm new to the list. My Hesse-Darmstadt connection is one George Karl Spiesz, born November 13th, 1820 (according to his own writing) in Höhen-sulzen. I do not know his parents names. I know he had the following siblings though: Phillip, Ana Maria, Barbara. I have the death date for Phillip I can dig up if anyone thinks this information looks familiar. George Karl and Barbara boarded the "Virginia" in Le Havre for America. Barbara died at sea and was buried at sea. George arrived in New York City on June 11th, 1846 and then travelled to Cincinnati, Ohio which is where he settled. George left a little bit of informaton, and for that I'm thankful. He didn't include Ana Maria's married name though and we know from his writing that she lived very near to Wörms, in a town that starts with Pfiff. He also tells his mothers death date, but neglects to mention her name. She died at Ana Maria's. A father is never mentioned, so one could assume that he had died before George left for the states in 1846. He also does not tell the relative ages of his siblings - he never says he is younger than, or older than. The one last clue I do have is that they were a Protestant family. When I'm done looking through the microfilm on another ancestor, I will attempt to order the microfilm for Hohen-sulzen. But, if anybody else out there has Spiesz ancestors from Hesse-Darmstadt, please let me know. Thanks! LeeAnn McNabb

    3. Hi, Brian, This chart: http://immigrants.byu.edu/english/volunteer/german_alphabet_image.html was a big help to me in doing the same as you are attempting to do. It helped me with the old typefont so I could recognize the letters and then transcribe text into online translation engines. I use two online translators and an in-hand German-English dictionary to arrive at meaning; clunky, but it more or less works: http://www.systransoft.com/index.html http://www.freetranslation.com/ Don't despair; the more you do it, the easier it gets. 2. I am looking for the village of Giebelrein in Hesse. This name is recorded in church records in the archives of the Diocese of Fulda in the time period of the early 1700's. Other villages listed in these records include Friesenhausen, Dieterhausen and Margrethenhaun. These villages are about 10 miles east of Fulda and so my guess is that Giebelrein is in this area. I have done a mapquest search and a Google search with no results. My guess is a misspelling or a misreading. Or maybe this village was absorbed into another village and no longer exists. 1. New tree on WorldConnect
    2. Beverly Howard
    3. I put my first installment of my Brensbach research on WorldConnect last night. Its called Brensbach-bbh and its up now. Mostly I looked at marriage and birth records from about 1808-1870 and extracted all the info that I found for these names: Buechler, Blumensheim, Hartmann, Lautenschlaeger, Kaffenberger, Kriechbaum, Maser, Roeder, Rettig, Reinheimer, Steinmetz, Schwoebel, Vetter. All of these names except Blumensheim and Maser are connected to my great-grandfather's Bixler family in the Gross Bieberau area. Looks like I found the Steinmetz and Buechler families of two of the spouses of my great-grandfather's siblings. The other two names are ones in the ancestry of some of my cousins who are researching in the same area. I originally ordered these films because I was curious if my Bixlers aka Buexler & Bueschler were related to the Buechlers in Brensbach but before the films came in I found out that my Buexlers were from the Pirmasens area in Alsace. Warning: I used the indexes to these records and the indexes were not legible all the way through, so I may have missed people. Also, my German handwriting reading skills are getting better but far from expert. Beverly Howard Austin, TX
