    3. There has been a lot of interest in my article and map. A very good source of accurate historical maps will be found at the website below. http://www.ieg-maps.uni-mainz.de/enter.htm The site is in German, however, very basic German and not hard to follow. If you click on the link under the map displayed it will open up a larger image. The adobe acrobat icon will download a map in that format. All the images can be downloaded to your computer. I recommend printing them on card stock with a color printer, they are quite nice that way. The site is maintained by the University of Mainz and new maps are added periodically. If you cannot find exactly what you are looking for keep going back. I recommend to all that you bookmark the site and pass this information on to whatever other newsgroups you belong to. You get the addresses of some RIEBOLD families living at that place at online phonebook http://tinyurl.com/34yf4 , maybe it's Hilde Riebold? Also in Foko there is an address for a person having/searching RIEBOLD in Oberlengsfeld as seen at http://foko.genealogy.net . RIEBOLD in Oberlengsfeld is also shown at World connect: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=delancey23&id=I0899 Greetings, Ralf

    1. Johann Casper Stoever
    2. Pamela Adams
    3. Hello, I have recently connected my husband to Rev. Johann Casper Stoever Jr., a very predominate German Lutheran minister in Pennsylvania in the 1700's. He was born Dec. 21, 1707, Ludorf, Solingen Amt., Germany, and came to the United States in 1728 with his father, Johann Casper Stoever Sr., born Jan. 13, 1684, Frankenburg, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. Family tradition implies that these men are direct descendants of Martin Luther. There are 2 maternal lines that claim this. 1. Johann Stoever, born early 1600 and married Miss Casper in Germany. Miss Casper claimed to be a direct descendant of Martin Luther. 2. Deitrich Stoever, born c.1660, married Magdalena Eberwein, born Feb. 21, 1657, Frankenburg, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. They wed c.1682 Frankenburg, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. Magdalena also claims to be a direct descendant of Martin Luther. Her parents are Andreas Eberwein and Christiana Riese. 3. Johann Casper Stoever Sr. 4. Johann Casper Stoever Jr. Is anyone familiar with these families? Does anyone know if there is any validity to their claims of being direct descendants to Martin Luther? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Pamela J. Adams __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! 3. Or "Liebarherzoft"? or "Lieberherhoss"...? A woman who came from there was married to a man from Daisbach (in the vicinity of Burgschwalbach, Langenschwalbach, Allendorf, etc. in Nassau) in 1803, and I can't determine what the town was then or is now. 3. Starkenburg is not a town, it is a region. Hesse-Darmstadt had three provinces; Oberhessen, north of the Main River. Rhinehessen west of the Rhine River and Starkenburg, east of the Rhine and south of the Main including the capital of Darmstadt. This link will help you with Hesse-Darmstadt http://24.1911encyclopedia.org/H/HE/HESSE_DARMSTADT.htm Note: there was no Sarkenburg in Hesse-Kassel! I have an article about Hesse Darmstadt in the period after the Napoleonic Wars, that gives a detailed description of each of these provinces and contains a map illustrating their location. 1. Re: [HESSE] German dialect much differnt from solid German
    2. Heinz L. Zulauf
    3. Not quite sure what your question is referring to. The dialect? If yes, you have to know that the language you call "solid German" only exists a few hundred years and was artificially created for writing purposes. Even today, most of the Germans speak their old dialect in day-to-day life and it is in most cases far away from the so called "Hochdeutsch". I assume, that your "Oberlangsfeld" (not sure that you got the name correctly) is somewhere in North Hesse. The village people there have their own dialect which is to a certain extent related to my own South Hesse dialect, but which is difficult to understand even for me, having grown up just about 100 miles apart. In other words: Germany is a country with many different dialects, where there is one artificially created language called "Hochdeutsch", which people use to have a common language basis. But still, many people in rural areas have difficulties with this language. Heinz

    1. Find IGI entries by German Town Name
    2. Michelle Stone
    3. Hi, friends, I wanted to share a very interesting German index with you that is new to me: International Genealogical Index (IGI) entries (at Familysearch.org) sorted by German Town Names (Batch Numbers) - http://igi.wahler.org/ Click on the British flag and it takes you to a version of the index with enough English to get you around. This index will link you to IGI Batch number entries by town, which is eye-opening if you are researching several families in a known German location. Cheers, Michelle Stone "German Immigrant Ancestors in Syracuse & Onondaga County, New York" http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mstone/
