    3. Hello Ed, The following are taken from Ernest Thode's, "German / English Genealogical Dictionary" Here goes: Henn= there is nothing for this abbreviation but there is Hennericus which is Latin for male given name, Heinrich and also listed is Henning another male given name Heinz= and Heintz= are both forms of given name Heinrich Cunz= and Cuntz= are a form of the male given name Konrad; Conrad Jobss= Jobst, Joss, Jost are forms of given names Jodicus (or Justus) Jost= see above Grundf= nothing is shown for this...is it a name? Grund means gound, valley floor, lot of ground Hope this helps a bit. Marion in New York too. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ed Maul" <edmaul@optonline.net> To: <HESSE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 25, 2005 11:48 AM Subject: [HESSE] Given names and Nick names

I habe been at genealogy since 1977 but there is always something new to learn. All help appreciated, Edmund, New York

    1. Anyone with the Germans to America CD 1850-1875- I can beg lookup?
    2. Rod Fleck
    3. I am wondering if anyone on the list might have the Germans to America CD that covers the 1850-1875 period? I am asking so I can beg a look up for an ancestor that I believe I have finally figured out the 24 month period of her immigration (1865-1867). If someone might have this CD and would be willing to take a look for me, please contact me off list. Thanks in advance. Rod Fleck Forks, WA

    1. Frankfurt am Main
    2. Hello All, I have found that my Grandfather' brother was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1840. I checked the LDS Family History Library and found several films for Frankfurt am Main. The all read Frankfurt - subname. Can the subname is the parish name? Can I found him only using each parish name, no central location? Alan Rossing, Monterey, California, USA

    1. Fw: Peter KRAMP 1825-1913
    2. Mary Jane
    3. Peter KRAMP was born in Nassau (Wood Co OH history), Prussia, emigrated to Huron Co OH in 1854 and m Christiana SEEL 1861. He had - two brothers Adam and David and - three sisters, Elizabeth m Philip Schid, Jenny m Henry Menor and Catherine ( twin of Peter) m Ernest Gross. His parents died when he was young and none of the siblings emigrated to the US. Obit of his wife says he came from the "same" area in Germany as he did. Passenger and naturalization papers also give Nassau as his bp. The SEEL family was from Burg Schwalbach and parish records of many churches in wide area have been searched for this KRAMP family. None were found. Many letters to KRAMP persons in the current German telephone book were contacted. Of those who responded none had relevant information. The Wiesbaden - Mainz repositories have been searched and nothing was found. Does anyone have knowledge of this family or ideas for finding them. I would be forever grateful. Thanks. Mary Kramp Adams

    1. Re: HESSE-D Digest V05 #17 [Passenger Ship (Barque)]
    2. Cheryl, Just playing a hunch (not always the best idea in genealogy research, but worth a try): Check out the list posting immediately before yours today from Virginia Dunham, citing a passenger listing for the ship Mocambique from Rotterdam to New York in 1851. Is that a coincidence or what? Dave

    1. Passenger Ship (Barque)
    2. Bart Hansen
    3. Cheryl, these films are available via the LDS, but it would be better if you knew the month of arrival. The films are such that each one covers a 2-3 week period in 1851, so you would have to go through many to find your ship. Googling both spelling variations of you ship gets little. Can you get closer to that name? You could try TheShipsList.com and ask there. Bart

    1. Another "can't find" passenger ship
    2. Michelle Stone
    3. I too am having no luck in finding the ship named in my Nassau emigrant ancestor's naturalization papers (I have looked in the National Archives microfilm of New York arrivals and it is not there): The ship "Zipspring" leaving the port of Antwerp on or around 5 August 1848 under Captain Woodward and arriving in New York on or about 25 September 1848. Any suggestions on other places to look? Michelle Stone
