Hi All I am looking for any information on Johann Adam Siebert born around 1819 in Cassel, Hessen according to the British Census records. He was the son a Louis Siebert (possibly a farmer). I know that many of the records from Cassel were destroyed during the Wars but believe that an index of births etc has been compiled from newspaper records etc. Is anyone able to look at these records for me to find out more about Johann. I am wondering if someone can help me. I understand that it is beneficial when researching German ancestors to know the parish they came from but unfortunately, I don't. My ancestor, JACOB BRAUN and MARTHA (WENZEL) BRAUN were both born in Hesse Cassel, Jacob in Sept. 1824 and Martha in Apr. 1822. They were of the Reformed faith. Jacob was a scissor grinder. His naturalization papers as well as the Phila census only state Hesse Cassel as their place of birth. They immigrated to America and Phila in particular in the early part of 1847. I have not found them on the passenger lists, however. They married here on Dec. 25, 1847 in a Reformed Church. The church was formerly United High German Evangelical "Calvinist" Reformed. I don't know if that gives any clue to anything at all. Other family names were Heinrich and Conrad Braun and Martin Wenzel, I think. I keep playing with the towns of IBA and OBERKAUFUNGEN, but don't know why. It is only a gut feeling. I don't read German so my problem is compounded by that fact. Can any one help me. I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

I am trying to find the parents of my 4th g-grandfather. His name was Johan Lenhart Ihrig and he came from Beerfelden, Hessen, Germany in 1773 on the ship Union, with a wife Beatha Margareta ?. Other Ihrig's that came to the US in 1771 were Johann Jacob, Peter and Michael on the ship Tyger. I believe they were related to Leonard, but I need the names of the parents to know for sure. Peter & Michael went to Northampton Co. PA and Jacob and Leonard went to Lancaster Co. PA. I show the parents of Jacob as George Ihrig and Anna Catharina Helm born abt 1706. I show their children as Johann Michel 1730, Johann Georg 1731, Johann Adam 1732, Maria Eva 1734, Conrad 1736, Johann Peter 1737, Johann Georg 1739, Eva Catherina 1740, Anna Margaretha 1743 and Johann Leonhard 1746. I show they were born in Unter-Sensbach, Starkenburg, Hessen, Germany. I think this is my family but I don't have any proof. Elena, I am not aware of a translation into English of the mentioned books or of a web site in English. Hessen-Cassel was independent until 1866. In 1866 it became a part of Prussia. This explains the change in country of origin for your ancetors. This list, amongst other areas of todays Hessen, covers also the area of Hessen-Cassel. I'm looking for information on Johann Grohs/Groß born 24 May 1775 in Partenheim near Mainz Germany. He is Lutheran. He joined the Husen regiment was supposedly a Marshall - "als Husar des 1.ten Husaren-Regiments der Deutachen Legion zu Mons; dann wohnhaft zu Bruchhausen" is what I have written on an old family sheet. I am trying to find his birth location and parents names. This is the first time I have found a possible birth city. Other information I know is: He married Marie Josephin Boens (a catholic) on 18 Dec 1814 and had 8 children. She was from Charleroi Belgium where he was serving in the army. According to family stories they eloped and her family disowned her. They had 1 child in Charleroi and 5 more in Bruchhausen. They had 2 more after leaving Bruchhuasen but I don't know where they lived yet for sure. Johann died on 14 June 1842 in Tweelbake, Oldenburg. Marie died on 9 March 1875 location unknown.
