    3. I looked Macksfield Henslee up on the Hensley DNA site and see that your participant matches the Albemarle group. I have been told that many of the Hensley families lived in Albemarle County. My 2-gr-grandmother who was Lucinda Hensley Sammons said that her Hensleys were from Albemarle County when her granddaughter interviewed her: I have a hand written note that says “My grandmother, Lucinda Hensley Sammons was born in 1830 in Clay County, Illinois. She said that the Hensleys came from Arbemarle County, Va. They first settled in Barboursville, Virginia (now WV) then moved west. When I asked her why they came back to Barboursville, she said “they didn’t like the flat land. It seemed to me that the flat land would be better farm than these rough hills we have.” I have a DNA participant who believes that he is a direct descendent of my Bird Hensley who would have been Lucinda's father. He does not seem to match the Albemarle County Hensley lines. However, he does have a match with a participant who believes that he descends from Solomon G. Hensley born very close to the same time as my Bird Hensley in the same general area. Since I believe that my Bird had father named Solomon it seems that the odds are very good that our match indicates that we share ancestry. I think that it is possible that there was a birth incident rather than the fact that we represent an entirely different Hensley line. Perhaps we will find a Hensley female who either had an illegitimate son but raised him as a Hensley....or perhaps we will find a Hensley family took in an orphan and raised him as a Hensley. I can't guess yet. However, I continue to be interested in the Hensley lines. I think that I read that your Macksfield Henslee was born 1726.....is this a good estimate? Who do you think his descendents are in the 1750 to 1825 time frame? marsha On Aug 28, 2011, at 1:10 PM, Robert Stamps wrote: > Yes, all these were in Pittsylvania Co. I'm interested in this John Sr. in the hopes that he might be the father of Macksfield. I think this John moved down into Pitts. Co. from Hanover/Louisa, Albemarle where Macksfield was earlier. Macksfield moved to Caswell Co. NC, which adjoins Pitts. Co. Macksfield had a son, David, who married Mary Payne. There is a John Payne, who died in Pitts. Co. and left a will naming a daughter, Mary. I can't think of the exact date at this moment; need to check my records. At any rate, I know that I have to put a couple together in the same neighborhood to get them married. So I'm hoping that these adjoining counties might do that. John Payne Henslee was the son of David; he married in Rockingham Co. NC in 1813, which adjoins Caswell. David and his family are in records of both these NC counties before moving to GA. > > --- On Sun, 8/28/11, marsha moses <mosesm@earthlink.net> wrote: > >> From: marsha moses <mosesm@earthlink.net> >> Subject: [HENSLEY] Pittsylvania County, VA >> To: hensley@rootsweb.com >> Date: Sunday, August 28, 2011, 11:59 AM >> Cindy, was the exemption in >> Pittsylvania County?
