Marsha, On 18 March 1783, John Hensley asked the court to exempt him from paying county and public levies; granted. This was usually done due to old age. There was also an oath of allegiance taken: John Henslee Sr. and Jr. signed it; also Jonathan & Tobias Phillips. I'm interested in the Phillips because a Charles Phillips was the bondsman for my John Payne Henslee's wedding, and they named their first child Charles Phillip Henslee.
