The oldest Hensley I have been able to find is Davis Hensley (born in Virginia (where?) b. 1751) who lived in St. Louis area and also died there. His wife was Lydia (last name unknown) born in South Carolina and they had (8) children: Willis D. Sr., Francis, Mary (Polly), Nancy Jane, John, Ellen (Nelly) Sarah (Sally) and William. TN abt. 1824, lived in Crawford & Washington Counties, MO, for most of his life and for all three of his wives. Married 1. Elizabeth Mason in TN in 1841; 2. Rease Laramore in MO, 1857-1859; 3. Rachael Adams/Black, Mathis, Owensby, 1895,MO. I Obediah and Rachael were both still alive in 1900 as they listed on the 1900 census for Washington County, MO. I also have census listings for him from 1850 through 1870, then for 1900. But despite all efforts so far, I have not found him on the 1880 census. I havent found him on the dawes rolls, or even a hensley/henslee chickasaw...but I am not giving up! I think they have a listing....if you can't find it here on Ancestry.com, you might google oklahoma Chickasaw Indian and see what you might find. I've found some Hensleys listed on some site, but I don't remember where it was. I was told that we were Cherokee, but there were Cherokee and Chickasaw both listed on the Chickasaw tribes. I may have been told wrong, too and perhaps were are chickasaw. Will have to check that out when I have time...Good luck and I'll be checking back with you if I run across any thing that might be of interest to you..... (possibly J.D.) Hensley (b. abt 1906, Tennessee) and Nora Bass (b. abt 1904, Tennessee). They had at least one daughter (Living Hensley, b. 1931, Limestone, Washington, Tennessee, USA). The initial "D" could possibly stand for Dewey as there is a Dewey Hensley mentioned in a related obituary. Also mentioned in that obituary was a Grady Hensley. I have no further information on Nora Bass. I find an I.D. Bass marrying a Norah Bass in Greene Co., Tennessee on 21 Feb 1925. I also find a Nora F. Bass listed as the daughter of Rebecca Bass. No husband is mentioned in census records for Rebecca Bass. If anyone has any information, I would love to hear from you!
