My husband's mother's family were from that area and many were from Inez. Not a town you hear about every day. It looks like my husband's 4th great grandfather was Elijah Hensley who may be Ashley Judd's Elijah Hensley's father. My husband is related through what I think may be Elijah Hensley's half brother Aaron Hensley. That is if I have connected all the dots correctly??? I watched the show on Hulu.com and paused the show so I could read the letter Ashley Judd received concerning Elijah Hensley. On the letter the ,name, date of birth and death of both Elijah Hensley's father and mother were visible and those match my records for Elijah Hensley Sr.b 1793 d 1860.So it looks like my husband is related to Ashley Judd's Elijah Hensley. Pretty interesting stuff,but so hard to figure out the! complete truth. I really wish the earlier census had more than just the head of households name. If genealogy was as easy as the stars make it seem we would all be finished by now!...they just do an inquiry, get on a plane or in a car and off to meet someone who has a fist full of papers and pictures, too. Oh, but I digress. She (Judd) found her great-great grandfather was Elijah Hensley in Kentucky. He had joined the army during early Civil War times at the age of 15, been taken prisoner 2x and lost a leg @ the age of 17. He went on to become a farmer as well as a circuit Methodist preacher. He lived throughout his life and also died in Kentucky. (don't know location) I do know this branch of Hensleys' is not my branch. There are many conflicting stories that I'm finding on the web and throughout this site. All stories seem to point to some Native American connection in the Hensley line, but who for sure, I can't tell. Some trees show Daniel Hensley b.1774 as a brother to Elijah Hensley b. 1793. Some show that they are father and son and it just gets more confusing from there. There are stories about Elijah Hensley's heritage as the son of a native american, but not proof that I can find, although one story states proof can be found in an 1850's census record that I have yet to find. I have been tracing the Hensley line through my husband's Evans/Murphy family. The first Hensley I find is Elizabeth Hensley daughter of Aaron Hensley and Martha Patsy Ball. I have that Aaron Hensley was the son of Elijah Hensley and Mary Polly Giddons. I show Elijah Hensley as th! e son of Daniel Hensley and an unknown Native American. Then the real confusion starts with Daniel's father who seems to be Christopher C.Hensley. Many family trees on this site show that Daniel and Elijah were brothers.
