Ann/Nancy who married John (Red Bank) Payne; moved to GA & left will 6. David who married Mary Payne; moved to GA; no will found 7. Daughter who married William Mitchell; died before father 8. My 2-gr-grandmother who was Lucinda Hensley Sammons said that her Hensleys were from Albemarle County when her granddaughter interviewed her: I have a hand written note that says “My grandmother, Lucinda Hensley Sammons was born in 1830 in Clay County, Illinois. She said that the Hensleys came from Arbemarle County, Va. They first settled in Barboursville, Virginia (now WV) then moved west. When I asked her why they came back to Barboursville, she said “they didn’t like the flat land. It seemed to me that the flat land would be better farm than these rough hills we have.” I have a DNA participant who believes that he is a direct descendent of my Bird Hensley who would have been Lucinda's father. He does not seem to match the Albemarle County Hensley lines. However, he does have a match with a participant who believes that he descends from Solomon G. Hensley born very close to the same time as my Bird Hensley in the same general area. Since I believe that my Bird had father named Solomon it seems that the odds are very good that our match indicates that we share ancestry. I think that it is possible that there was a birth incident rather than the fact that we represent an entirely different Hensley line. Perhaps we will find a Hensley female who either had an illegitimate son but raised him as a Hensley....or perhaps we will find a Hensley family took in an orphan and raised him as a Hensley. I can't guess yet. However, I continue to be interested in the Hensley lines. I think that I read that your Macksfield Henslee was born 1726.....is this a good estimate? There was also an oath of allegiance taken: John Henslee Sr. and Jr. signed it; also Jonathan & Tobias Phillips. I'm interested in the Phillips because a Charles Phillips was the bondsman for my John Payne Henslee's wedding, and they named their first child Charles Phillip Henslee. I descend from Bird Hensley who I find in Cabell County, VA (now WV) growing up.....then in Clay County, Illinois as a young man with a young family. Then he and his wife move back to Cabell County,VA before the census of 1850. I have adopted Solomon Hensley as a father to Bird.
