    1. [HENSLEY-L] HENSLEY, MANKEL, ARNOLD, HERD, STEEDLEY, HARVEY, SHYCOFF
    2. Would like to throw out the lines I am researching on my husband's side. Jay Douglas HENSLEY, born Aug 1889 in Sparta TN, married Nellie Mae MANKEL born Aug 1889, McMinnville TN. Jay Douglas' parents were William Reece HENSLEY & Mary Ida ARNOLD both born in Sparta TN. Nellie's parents were Alex Clinton MANKEL born in Louisville KY and Mary Lina Elizabeth STEEDLEY of Evansville IL. William Reece HENSLEY was the son of John Douglas HENSLEY & Sarah (Sally) Broyles HERD. Mary Ida ARNOLD was the daughter of Seth ARNOLD & Mary Ann (Molly) HERD. There was definitely some interfamily marriages in this line. Alex Clinton MANKEL was the son of George Louis MANKEL & Mary Ann HARVEY. Mary Lina STEEDLEY was the daughter of George STEEDLEY & Elizabeth SHYCOFF. That should be enough for now, willing to share info with fellow researchers. Sharon Hensley

He removed first to Tennessee where he stayed two years then came to Clay County in 1842. My grandfather, James Hensley, came a few years later. My great-grandfather's name was James. I have heard him say that his father, whose name was Henry Hensley came from England. He was accompanied by his brother, Isom Hensley, whose location he never knew. They parted to meet no more. The descendants of James Hensley are numerous. They are all through the Kentucky mountains, especially in Harlan County and in West Virginia. Do any of you have these folks in your databases? I'd be interested in knowing how they plug into the larger Hensley tree. Thanks! Steve DeNunzio [email protected]

    2. Hi Folks In the 1920 Federal Census the initials stands for birth place of the individual on that line, the second stands for birth place of father and the third stands for birth place of mother. Example: KY (Kentucky),VA (Virginia),VA (Virginia). This abbreviation started with the 1880 Federal Census, prior to that the line only indicated birth place of individual on that line1850,1860,1870. I believe you can look in the front of most telephone books in the customer guide section and obtain the abbreviations. If this is not available check with the post office. Joe K.

    1. Re: [HENSLEY-L] My Hensley
    2. Leona, You mentioned a Reverend Hensley's son married to Mary(Green?) and that their daughter Emma Green Hensley died in Covington KY in 1919. Were these Hensleys originally from Covington? My biological father, David Hensley (who I'm trying to trace) was born in Covington in May 23, 1911...son of Edmund Wesley Hensley and Stella (Robinson) Hensley. I have sent for SS-5 form on Edmund as I do not have his parents names .. Do you have anyone in your line with these names? If so, please let me know as I just can't find a connection to other Hensleys so far. Thank you. Joan
