Looking for any info on Mary Elizabeth Hensley (died 1 Jul 1897). She was the first wife of William Aldridge and had 12 children in Greene Co., TN. I have her birth as 1862 but this is very unlikely as her first child was born 1871. She was from western NC (Madison Co. area). Don't have any info on her siblings or ancestors. Thanks, Kelley http://lilyeag.home.mindspring.com/surnames.htm
HI everyone, My Hensley line is Martin Hensley and Rachel M. ?, who had a son name Samuel.R. Hensley, born about 1850, MS, Martin Hesley was probley born in abt. 1821 in Tennessee, and Rachel M. ?abt. 1831 in .Tennesse. I appreciate any information on them. Thank You, Robin

Lots of HOLLEN surnames in Rockingham Co., VA
I am descended from Samuel Hensley and Sibba Halen through their son Solomon. I was glad to see the reference to Mary Elizabeth Halen. I always wondered if Sibba was related to Mary Elizabeth. Now one of my questions has been answered. Does anyone have any information on the Halen family? I recently saw a Hallen family in VA and wonder if maybe that is the same one. Any information on them would be greatly appreciated. Judy Hensley Anderman
Thanks Bruce for the directions and posting them. I will be making plans to go there this coming summer. As a descendant of Henry Harry Hensley I've always wondered where exactly they came from. Randy Oplinger Hamilton, Ohio
I'd be glad to! Take Rt. 19 North of Asheville (just past Mars Hill, NC). About a mile or so before Burnsville, take 19W. You will find it goes parallel to the Cane River. About 10 miles or so down the road you will come to a general store on the left. 19W goes right across the Cane River. Go past the store and the next road on the left is Bald Mountain Road. You go about a mile or so and on the right is Beelog Elementary. Over the hill is a beautiful valley. Bear to the right and up on the hill are the Hensley cemeteries. You may want to check with those that live back there. Verlon Edwards lives in the brick house on the left. It's just so peaceful there! It's VERY BEAUTIFUL and I can understand why many of them stayed so long. Here are some directions: Take Rt. 19 north from Asheville. After you pass Mars Hill, 19 will go off to the right. Just before Burnsville (county seat of Yancey), take 19W to the left. This, I believe is the road that Henry "Harry" Hensley and his brothers built back in 1792. (You can read the court minutes of 1792 commissioning them to build the road at the Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society site). This road winds along parallel to the Cane River (Caney River in some of our records). About 10 miles down the road, you will come to a general store (I'm sorry -- I can't remember the name). It will be on the left. On the right, 19W crosses the Cane River and eventually goes into Tennessee. Just past the store is Bald Mountain Road to the left. All of this land was/is Hensley land. Go on Bald Mountain Road about a mile or so and there will be Bee Log Elementary School on the left. Turn onto this gravel road, pass the school and you will go over a hill and into the Hensley "valley". There are at least 6 cemeteries there. Off to the right is a little pink building, and I believe that is where the original house stood. There is a natural spring there, too. Water is great!! Verlon Edwards lives in the yellow brick house on the left past the spring. She is a descendant of Henry "Harry". Almost every mailbox you see in this entire area says "Hensley". The principal of the elementary school is a descendant, also. I met several Hensleys in Burnsville and at the general store. Henry Harry had many different tracts given to him, but this, from what everyone told me, is the original site. I only had about 4 hours, so I didn't get to go up to the cemeteries. I hope to go back. Thanks to Lee and Bev for all the good info. I believe I am related to the HENSLEYs that you both wrote about. Albemarle Co, VA is a match and many of the first names that Lee mentioned also fit (William, Fleming, Thomas, James). My bunch came first to St. Louis, MO and ended up in Jefferson Co, MO (I think some also went to Lincoln Co, MO). I believe I am descended from William HENSLEY and Elizabeth APPLEBERRY, both born in Albemarle Co, VA. I think William was a brother of Samuel (mentioned by Bev) but I'm not certain. I would greatly appreciate any info that anyone has on descendents of this couple, particularly those who went to Missouri. I have hit the proverbial "brick wall" with my great grandfather Albert Benjamin HENSLEY. I can't seem to figure out who his father was. Fleming, son of Fleming, son of William and Elizabeth, may be his father, but he may also be his uncle (it's a long story!) Thanks, Bob PATTERSON St. Louis, MO [email protected]
Please tell me the state, county and closest town where the Beelog Elementary school is located. I would like to go to the Hensley cemeteries you mentioned and see the area they settled. Can you give me some details on how to get there? Thanks, Frances Hall
Hi to everyone. Hope you are enjoying the holidays. About a year ago I received e-mail from a Terry Edwards about the location of Henry Harry Hensley's homestead in North Carolina. His e-mail address no longer works. Does anyone else out there know anything about this or where he is buried? I was up there in 1998 and saw the valley behind Beelog Elementary where there are 7 Hensley cemeteries. I'm assuming this was the homestead (it's beautiful there). Also, does anyone have additional information on Mary Elizabeth Halen, his first wife. I have a copy of the Hensley Family Tree Book which says that Sibba Halen, Mary's sister, married Samuel Hensley, a brother to Henry Harry. These marriages took place in Albemarle County. I haven't been able to find out anything about the Halen family. Bev Hildreth

To the Macksfield Hensley/Henslee researcher These were the postings about Macksfield in the Archives. Also if anyone is interested in one of the Hot spring County Federal Census Macksfield was here with children when the census was taken. If anyone is interested I will hunt it up and I don't have the faintest idea what he was doing in AR. contact me if you are interest in what I have on file and I may be able to come with a researchers from pre internet days that was doing his line. Hi gang, I've put most of my Hensley web pages back online. This includes the various Hensley families of VA, TN and NC. As many of you know, I removed them about 9 months ago for various reasons (mainly my health), and I meant to put them back online long before now, but we got flooded by Hurricane Floyd (from which we are still recovering!), so it took me longer than I planned. Anyway, if you had my Hensley pages bookmarked, you will need to replace them with the new URL for most of the page names have changed. As always, I'll be very slow answering queries due to limited time, but hopefully the pages will have many of the answers you need. The data is the same as it was 9 months ago, even though many of the pages could be updated with new information and additional documentation. I'll get on this as soon as I can. Here are the primary links: Hensley Page (Main): http://www.martygrant.com/gen/hensley.shtml Hensley Families of NC, SC and VA: http://www.martygrant.com/gen/hensley/hensley-families.shtml Hensley Census Records 1790-1850 (various states): http://www.martygrant.com/gen/hensley/hensley-census.shtml Have fun, and let me know if anything doesn't work right, or if some of the data is wrong.
