Hi Edna, I have found no connection to your Hensley ancestors to this point. The John W. Hensleys I have were born in Henry Co. VA and settled in nearby Rockingham Co. NC. They were John Walter and John William "Weese" Hensley, sons of Henry C. Hensley b. 1855 in Patrick Co. VA. Wish I could be of help. So far it seems my ancestors tended to stay in VA. Good Luck, Jim > Hi James, I am searching Hensley line and getting no where. Well I have another Benjamin to add to the list. I have been searching for his parents for sometime without any luck - maybe it will change now. First a little recent Hensley trivia. We came sort of close to having a Hensley in the White House next year. Presidential hopefull John McCain's wife Cindi is a Hensley. Her father James died last week at 80 in Phoenix. Woe! There's a hit. I wonder how common the name Verda is. My mother's sister is Verda (Lindsay) Ratcliff. Her mother is Lena May Black and Lena's mom is Gusta Anna Lucas, whose mother is Emma Green Hensley. What do you think? Ron http://community.webtv.net/oitsuron/RONANDLUELLAEDWARDS
I'm finally getting around to joining the "Sound Off". Here is my earliest known Hensley info. 1. William Benjamin(?) Hensley, born about 1754 in Albemarle Co, VA, married Elizabeth Appleberry. 2. James A. Hensley, born about 1786 2. Benjamin Hensley, born about 1791 2. William Hensley, born about 1792, VA, married Lydia ??? 3. Alexander B. Hensley, born about 1824, VA, married Virginia Moss 4. George W. Hensley, born about 1855 4. Emma Hensley, born about 1862 4. Lilly V. Hensley, born about 1864 4. Rankin Hensley, born about 1873 2. Thomas Hensley, born about 1794 2. Judith Hensley, born about 1795 2. Flemming Hensley, born Feb 14. 1799, married Jane Milton 3. William Hudson (or Hutson) Hensley, born 1820 3. Leander Hensley, born about 1823 3. Joel Mellon Hensley, born Apr 4, 1832 3. Andrew Wilson Hensley, born about 1836 3. Alfred Hensley, born about 1839 3. Flemming A. Hensley, born about 1840 2. Elizabeth Hensley, born about 1807 4. Albert Benjamin, born Mar, 1866, Jefferson Co, MO, married Rose Elizabeth Morris 5. Raymond J. Hensley, born Dec 2, 1884, MO, married Evelyn Turk 5. Guy Herbert Hensley, born Jan 28 1888, MO, married Bertha Calahan 6. Verda Bertha Hensley, born Mar 9, 1914, Jefferson Co, MO, Married Joshua B. Patterson 7. Robert J. Patterson (that's me!) 5. Marshall Albert Hensley, born Jun 28, 1891, MO The reason Albert Benjamin is separated from the rest is that I haven't been able to confirm who his father is. The 1870 and 1880 census records indicate that Alexander B. Hensley could be his father or, more likely, his uncle. Another source indicates that Flemming A. Hensley is his father and Emma Hensley is his sister, but I haven't been able to confirm that yet. Either way, William Benjamin(?) Hensley, and Elizabeth Appleberry are likely to be Albert Benjamin's great grandparents because they are Alexander B. Hensley and Flemming A. Hensley's grandparents. Just wanted to give my line. I've got some information back to the William Hensley in Tiverton, Devon, England in 1583, but will skip down to Benjamin and Elizabeth Hickman Hensley. 1. Benjamin was born in 1738 in Albemarle County, Virginia and died Feb. 28, 1803 in Albemarle Co. He married Elizabeth Hickman. He was a private in the Revolutionary War. 2. Henry Harry Hensley was born about 1754 in Albemarle County, Virginia and died in Buncombe County, NC (now Yancey County, specifically Bald Mountain, near Bee Log). He was first married to Mary Elizabeth Halen in 1770. They had four sons, Hiram, Isham, Robert and James (my line). Henry Harry was married to Barbara Angel in 1778 and had several other children. He was in the Revolutionary War at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in Greensboro, NC. He was awarded 200 acres on the Cane River near Bald Mountain Creek for his service. 3. James Hensley was born in 1776 in Albemarle County, VA. He married Martha Mary Howard in 1795 in Buncombe Co, NC. They eventually went to Oneida, Clay County, Kentucky where he died in 1841 and she died in 1851. 4. James Hensley was born on Feb. 15, 1796 in Buncombe County, NC. He was married (very young!) to Nancy Anderson in 1810. They later went to Clay County, Kentucky, where he died Nov. 16, 1859 and she died on July 18, 1862. 5. Robert Hensley was born in 1811. He married Nancy Barnett on Dec. 8, 1824 in Buncombe Co, NC. They also went to Clay County, Kentucky. Robert died in 1876. 6. Henry L. Hensley was born in 1845 in Clay County, Kentucky. He married Rebecca Metcalf and died in 1925. 7. Elizabeth Hensley was born in 1870 in Clay County, Kentucky. She marrried Mattison "Matt" Hacker and died in 1968. 8. Elbert Bradley Hacker was born in 1889 in Clay County, Kentucky. He married Florence Anderson (daughter of Henry and Mary House Anderson). He died in 1944. 9. Elsie Hacker was born in 1912 in Datha, Laurel County, Kentucky. She married Clyde Stoneking. She died in 1996 in Cincinnati, Ohio. 10. Donald Stoneking was born in 1931 in North Bend, Ohio and is married to Jacqueline Mehring Stoneking. 11. Beverly Stoneking, born in 1953 in Cincinnati, Ohio and married to Bruce Hildreth. My oldest HENSLEY is HENRY HARRY HENSLEY (b. ca. 1750-1754) and (d. ca. 1816-1821) who was married to BARBARA ANGEL (b. ca. 1754) and (d. ca. 1850-1860). I have been told that his father was a BENJAMIN HENSLEY??? BARBARA ANGEL is the daughter of CHARLES ANGEL & BARBARA WASHINGTON who is suppose to be a cousin of our first president GEORGE WASHINGTON. I have nothing confirmed on BARBARA ANGELS family. However, there sure have been many GEORGE WASHINGTON HENSLEYS thru out the years up to the present. Could this be where it started????? WHO KNOWS... Hi Linda and Ron; I have a John Justice b. 1898 (WV or KY?). His mother is said to be Mary C. Meade and his father Samuel or Morgan or Samuel Morgan Justice. Apparently Mary married several times as John's brothers last names were Bailey and Green. Unfortunately, this is most of the information I have on them.
