Henry Jr. Wednesday, June 26th, 2002 - Island Packet Samuel "Sam" J. Henry Jr., 69, of Hilton Head Island died Tuesday, June 25, at his Hilton Head Plantation home. He was born Oct. 22, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was the son of the late Theresa Watson Henry and Samuel J. Henry Sr. He moved to Hilton Head from Long Island, N.Y., in 1982. He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict and received his bachelor of science in business administration from Fordham University and master's in business administration from Fairleigh-Dickinson University. He retired from the FDIC in Washington, D.C., in 1994. He spent his entire business career in public accounting and the banking industry. He was active with Second Helpings on Hilton Head. He was a member of Bennett Council Knights of Columbus and St. Francis By the Sea Catholic Church and was a former member of the Palmetto Dunes Club. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Morgan Henry; son James Arthur Henry of Columbia; daughters and sons-in-law Patricia Henry and Kellen Gesslein of Flower Mound, Texas, and Kathryn Henry and Stephen DeVito of Chantilly, Va.; sister Susan Kelly of Barefoot Bay, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Morgan Gesslein, Lauren Gesslein, Christine DeVito and Michael Henry DeVito. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at The Island Funeral Home and Crematory, 4 Cardinal Road, where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis By the Sea Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael McCafferty officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Francis Columbarium. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6113, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926, or to St. Francis Catholic School, 45 Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
