I do make, ordain and constitute this my last will and testament. I will my soul to God who gave it and my body to the grave. In regard to my property I desire that all my just debts be paid. It is further my will and desire that my beloved wife CAROLINE have the farm on which I now live including the hundred acres deeded to me by Thomas Morgan as long as she lives for the purpose of raising and schooling my children. It is also my desire and will that my wife have the negro PATSY as long as my wife lives and the oldest negro boy of Patsy named ALBERT be hired out. And the other boys JOSHUA and ED be hired out and if PATSY should have any more children they should also be hired out in the same manner as those already spoken of until my youngest child becomes of age and all monies received from their hire I desire to be appropriated for the benefit of my children. When my youngest child becomes of age it is my will and desire said children should be sold to the highest bidder. Or in any case he should die before he arrives at that age they must be sold when the next youngest arrives at that age. And the proceeds of the sale is to be equally divided among my children. And it is my will and desire that all of the balance of the land except that which was willed to my wife is to be sold at the same time as the negros and the proceeds to be equally divided among my children. It is also my will that my wife shall have PLEASANT as long as she lives for her benefit and at her death he must be sold to the highest bidder and the sale money must be equally divided among my children when my youngest child becomes of age. It is also my will that my wife shall have two horses or mules which ever she may select and three cows which she may select and all the hogs and sheep on the place. And it is my will that balance of the stock and buggy be sold after my death and the proceeds of the money equally divided among my children as they become of age. It is further my will and desire that that all the household and kitchen furniture and farming utensils I desire to be my wifes for as long as she remains a widow. If she marries then all the household kitchen furniture and farming utensils except that the law allows her shall be sold and the proceeds divided equally divided among my children. All of the provisions on hand and the growing crop shall go towards the maintaining the family. And it is furthermore my will and desire that all the all the money I have on hand and the money due me and all which shall fall due hereafter I want equally divided among my children as they become of age. It is also my will and desire that if my wife dies before my youngest child becomes of age I want that portion of the land willed to her sold and the proceeds equally divided among my children as they become of age. And it is my will and desire if my wife dies before my youngest child becomes of age Patsy is to e sold with the other negroes and land. It is also my desire that THOMAS HENRY and E. HATFIELD shall be my executors. I therefor do clothe them with full authority to sell and convey all my property as I have directed in my will as if I had done it myself. Russell and M. Burton two of the subscribing witnesses therto. Whereupon said writing is ordered for and as the last will and testement of said John Henry dec’d and same hath been duly recorded in my office. Witness my hand this August 16th 1860 M. L.
